Charlie Feld is senior executive vice president of Applications Services, a critical component of EDS' growth strategy. He is also responsible for the Office of the CIO, the chief technology officer and Global Alliances. Feld is a member of EDS' Executive Committee and reports directly to Chairman, President and CEO Ron Rittenmeyer.

Feld, the architect of EDS' Agile Enterprise Platform and Multi-Year Plan, has led the company's efforts to modernize, standardize and automate its infrastructure and service offerings. In his current role, Feld is driving EDS' efforts to enhance its presence and capabilities in applications development and legacy modernization, two of the highest growth segments in the information technologies (IT) services market.

Previously, Feld was executive vice president of Portfolio Development where he led the development of EDS' portfolio of service offerings and solutions in Infrastructure, Applications and Business Process Outsourcing. He also led the Core Integration and Architecture and the office of the Multi-Year Plan.

Feld founded The Feld Group in 1992. As CEO of the Dallas-based firm, he built a team of IT executives that enabled dramatic results in Fortune 500 companies through the transformation of their own IT organizations. In addition to building the company, Feld led several transformations himself. He also focused on helping multiple Feld Group clients and on building a Leadership Institute leveraging the frameworks and management systems developed through operating experiences, extending the company's impact on the overall IT profession.

Previously, Feld served as acting chief information officer at First Data Resources (FDR), a division of First Data Corp. FDR brought in The Feld Group team to upgrade its IT organization and maintain its market-leading position. Feld and his team helped design and implement significant components of FDR's new IT architecture, positioned the organization for success, and at the end of January 2002, helped hire and transition his replacement to continue the task into the future.

Before that, Feld served as chief information officer for Delta Air Lines and was responsible for the development and operations of Delta's wholly owned subsidiary, Delta Technology, Inc. In this role, he received the 1998 "CIO of the Year" award for the state of Georgia. His Delta Technology team also received the 2000 Smithsonian Award for Technology Excellence. In January 2000, Feld hired his replacement for the CIO position and then took on the designation of e-Leader for Delta. In that role, he built a framework that has placed Delta Air Lines in the forefront of Global 1000 companies.

Delta was recently featured in the Forbes magazine article, "The E-Gang," highlighting the company's 40 different Internet-related programs that have drastically improved how the airline relates to customers, business partners and employees.

As senior vice president/CIO at Burlington Northern, Feld led the team managing the massive integration of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroad companies. He and his team completed the fusion ahead of schedule while maintaining high service levels.

Before launching The Feld Group, he was vice president/CIO at Frito-Lay, Inc. He began his association with Frito-Lay in 1970 as systems engineer for IBM on the Frito-Lay account, playing a key role in developing the company's computer network over an 11-year period.

In 1981, he joined Frito-Lay as CIO with responsibility for implementing an integrated computer system, which connected all departments into a common communications and data network. With this cornerstone system, Frito-Lay developed a hand-held computer network for its 10,000 sales people and a high-velocity distribution system, which earned the company world renown. Feld and his Frito-Lay team won the Carnegie Mellon Award for Innovative Technology, the Society for Information Management Partners in Leadership Award, and the 1988 Smithsonian Award for Technology Excellence.

Feld has garnered accolades from numerous corners, including Business 2.0 in August 2002 as well as in the September 30, 2002, edition of Computerworld. He also has been featured in InformationWeek and CIO magazine, which placed him among its "5 Top CIOs" in June 2001. He was profiled by The New York Times in November 2000, by Fast Company in October 2000 and in The Economist's April 14, 2001, issue. Fast Company also named him one of the eight turn-around experts in "Masters of Disaster" (April 2001). In 1997, Feld was named "One of the 12 Most Influential IT Executives of the Past Decade" by CIO magazine, and ComputerWorld named him as one of "25 IT People to Watch in 1998." His articles on IT leadership topics have appeared regularly in Computerworld Executive Suite, Harvard Business Review and CIO magazine.
