Global Volunteer Day
Good corporate citizenship is a key value at EDS, and our employees take this philosophy out of the office and into the community on our annual Global Volunteer Day. An EDS initiative since 1993, Global Volunteer Day is observed each October as EDS employees across the globe collectively donate thousands of hours to help people in their own communities.
Sharing Our Time and Talent
EDS and the many communities served by our employee volunteers reap the rewards of Global Volunteer Day. Employees share the rich experience of volunteering with their families, friends and clients, which improves morale and gives the strong sense of belonging that a community provides.
Corporate volunteerism has been a top EDS priority in the United States since 1986. As EDS expanded globally, we took the next step and extended our volunteer commitment to EDS locations outside the United States. We looked for other corporate volunteer programs with a global scope but finding none, we took the lead and developed our own. We designed Global Volunteer Day as a lowcost project, emphasizing personal involvement. Year by year, our program grew.
Today, the projects are as diverse as the individuals who participate.
From building ponds and planting flower beds to preparing and serving
meals to pouring foundations and painting fences, our volunteers are
making a difference across the globe.
They have enjoyed participating in Global Volunteer Day projects so much that word has spread throughout our communities. Other large, multinational corporations have consulted EDS for our Global Volunteer Day success formula, and we've been happy to share. That's what Global Volunteer Day is all about.
