Corporate Responsibility: Environmental Sustainability

EDS is working to optimize the performance and minimize the environmental impact of technology on EDS operations.Together with the EDS Agility Alliance members, EDS is working to optimize the performance and minimize the environmental impact of technology on EDS operations as well as those of its clients. EDS and our alliance partners are actively involved in a number of environmental industry groups, including the following:

Shared Resources and Innovation Are Eco-logical

EDS leverages highly skilled staff and resources from EDS Best Shore® locations to serve clients in every major industry and geography. This eliminates the need to replicate systems, with their added direct and indirect environmental demands. We offer a proven route to a greener future by reducing carbon emissions across the entire life cycle.

Because EDS is not a manufacturer or reseller, we can select market-leading innovations in hardware, software and best-in-class technologies. The EDS Agility Alliance is a coalition of the top technology and business services providers. We work together to deliver innovative and integrated enterprise-wide solutions for clients. This innovation extends to the environmental impact of the technology services carbon footprint in our data centers and similar facilities.

EDS is a founding board member of Climate Savers Computing Initiative, a consortium of industry leaders shaping the direction and driving the adoption of energy-efficient computing platforms. The objective is to reduce electrical consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions from PCs and volume servers by 50 percent by 2010. This will in turn lower the price of computing platforms, create best practice management and reduce energy costs for EDS and our clients.

EDS is also a member of The Green Grid, a global consortium dedicated to developing and promoting energy efficiency for data centers and information service delivery.

EDS is also involved with The Carbon Trust, a UK Government initiative to move to a low-carbon economy, to identify practical measures to reduce EDS' and our clients' carbon emissions. The activity with The Carbon Trust is expected to provide a template for similar audits and activity in Continental Europe.

EDS participates in the Business Roundtable's Climate RESOLVE (Responsible Environmental Steps, Opportunities to Lead by Voluntary Efforts) initiative that promotes voluntary action to manage greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improve energy efficiency in commercial buildings, new products, technology and services, among other goals.

Through EDS' involvement in these industry groups, we continue to seek opportunities to improve overall computing platform and data center power efficiencies internally and across the industry. In addition, we believe that operating efficiencies produced by EDS-developed internal best-practice standards, processes and optimized facility designs will streamline our costs and reduce the environmental impact of our operations.
