EDS is a major player in the Australian global services market where we've been working with many of the nation's leading government and business entities since 1985. EDS Australia employs a workforce of more than 6,000 people and maintains offices in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Perth.
Focusing on the financial services, communications, government and consumer, industry and retail markets, EDS Australia offers the full spectrum of IT services, from information-technology, applications and business process services, to information-technology transformation services.
World Firsts
Over the years, EDS Australia has achieved a number of significant milestones in the industry. In 1995 we signed the world's first whole of government outsourcing agreement with the South Australian Government.
In 1997 we signed what was at the time, the largest financial sector outsourcing contract in the world with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Three years later, EDS successfully helped integrate the complex IT systems of the Commonwealth Bank and Colonial Limited following a merger of these two organisations. The result of the merger was the creation of Australia's largest financial services group.
In mid 1999, we were instrumental in helping the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) implement the biggest change in taxation in Australia's history – the introduction of the goods and services tax in 2000. EDS not only provided the necessary IT infrastructure services to support this change, but also helped establish 50 new offices, deploy the mobile infrastructure needed to support 3,000 field officers and replace nearly 14,000 older PCs – all within one year.
Signing a contract with Westpac Banking Corporation in 2001 marked the first time an Australian bank had outsourced a major credit processing operation. EDS services over 700,000 loans for Westpac out of its 21,000 square metre state-of-the-art Credit Services facility in Adelaide. In 2005, the partnership was globally recognised by the International Outsourcing Centre, receiving a 'Best Governance' Outsourcing Excellence award.
EDS is continuing to help a number of other Australian clients transition and transform their IT operations. These include Bank of Queensland, Australian Customs, Telstra, and VicRoads.
Outsourcing Awards
In recognition of some of the work we have done with our clients, EDS Australia has been awarded an international Outsourcing Excellence award from International Outsourcing Centre on four occasions; in 2000 (Best Government) for our work with the South Australian Government; in 2001 (Most Visionary) for our work with the Commonwealth Bank; in 2002 (Most Flexible) for our work with the Australian Taxation Office and in 2005 (Best Governance) for our work with Westpac.
