How We Do It
Our portfolio is built around innovative offerings in application development and maintenance, business process outsourcing, and infrastructure – including desktop services, hosting, storage and networking delivered by leading edge methods. EDS New Zealand works with best-of-breed partners under the EDS Agility Alliance to deliver our services on the EDS Agile Enterprise Platform. We use next-generation global delivery system and EDS Best Shore® strategy to ensure high-quality, cost-competitive services are provided from the optimal mix of onshore, near-shore and offshore locations. This enables our clients to respond quickly to changing market dynamics and increase their competitiveness.
In the area of business process outsourcing, EDS operates New Zealand's largest helpdesk based in Auckland, employing more than 200 staff. EDS also owns one of New Zealand's largest print and mail distribution centres, located in Christchurch.
EDS runs a large-scale applications business, employing around 600 staff including PMP certified project managers, ISTQB certified testers and IIBA certified business analysts. EDS New Zealand is an accredited EDS Corporation Centre of Excellence for .Net, Java and SAP. It is also a Sun certified Java Centre of Excellence and Microsoft Centre of Excellence. It has significant operations and expertise in testing, data engineering and legacy migration.
EDS New Zealand is accredited to handle work for EDS corporation clients based offshore.

Communications
In 1999, EDS was awarded New Zealand's largest ever information technology outsourcing contract with Telecom New Zealand to supply most of its IT infrastructure and information system services. This contract has since been extended to 2012.
Consumer and Retail
Fonterra, New Zealand's largest company and the world's largest dairy exporter, and EDS signed a seven-year IT infrastructure outsourcing contract in 2003. In December 2006, EDS and Fonterra agreed to a four-year contract extension through to 2015. Fonterra is EDS New Zealand and Australia's first global account covering 324 offices and 34 countries.
Government
Government activities in New Zealand include:
- Ministry of Social Development: Managing more than 1 million beneficiary payments each fortnight and debt services
- Inland Revenue Department: Strategic planning partner, managing mainframes and part of KiwiSaver delivery consortium
- Department of Labour: Managing IT infrastructure, applications and global immigration systems
- Land Information New Zealand: Managing corporate systems and the IT infrastructure for LandOnline
Financial Services
EDS has played a longstanding role in the New Zealand banking sector, providing services to all of the major banks individually and also to the industry as a whole.
EDS hosts, supports and enhances many critical banking systems, and processes the vast majority of New Zealand's cheques and remittances. Banks also use EDS' document processing service to create and distribute customer financial statements and other communications. Through Interchange and Settlement, EDS manages the clearing and settlement function for the sector ensuring that each day every payment reaches its destination.
Our People
EDS New Zealand is an active corporate citizen. Once a year, throughout the month of October, staff take part in EDS Global Volunteer Day, where they offer their services voluntarily to assist charities and community groups.
As New Zealand's largest IT employer, EDS is proud to run the country's largest IT graduate recruitment programme. The company has also recently introduced a Maori IT scholarship programme to encourage more Maori in to the technology sector. EDS Go For Green
In 2007 EDS Australia and New Zealand made a commitment to reduce carbon use by 25 percent by 2010 in a wide-ranging program that will affect most areas of its business. EDS' "Go for Green" program looks at three key areas within the organisation; providing mechanisms to address employee carbon usage, developing internal initiatives to increase productivity and efficiency whilst reducing EDS' ecological footprint, and finally, further developing service offerings that will allow EDS' customers to reduce their impact on the environment.
