EDS was established in the United Kingdom (UK) in 1984. Since then, the business in the region has grown substantially and EDS UK now serves more than 120 major clients across most industry sectors.
EDS' UK headquarters are based in Berkeley Square, London. There are over 200 other sites in the UK, hosting in the region of 16,500 employees.
Public Sector
- The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) – EDS has been providing IT services and delivering modernisation programmes for the various agencies and departments now encompassed within the DWP, since 1989. EDS supports most of DWP's business systems including pension credit, child support, income support and incapacity benefit, as well as supporting Jobcentre Plus and the Job Banks.
- Ministry of Defence (MOD) – EDS has served military and secure government clients for more than 30 years. EDS is prime contractor on many of the MOD's major IT programmes. Also, as prime contractor in the ATLAS consortium, EDS is central to the successful delivery of the Defence Information Infrastructure (Future) (DII(f)). DII(f) is a major contract running over ten years and will replace numerous individual information systems throughout the MoD with a single more efficient information infrastructure.
- Ministry of Justice – EDS' work with the UK's Ministry of Justice includes the successful delivery of the Computerised-National Offender Management Information System (C-NOMIS), which will help join-up information across departments, tracking the progress of offenders during their time in prison and on probation.
Commercial Sector
In the UK, EDS' Commercial operations focus on financial services, manufacturing, telecommunications, energy and utilities, and consumer industries.
Private sector clients include British Airways, BP, Vodafone, Rolls-Royce, Lloyds TSB, Royal Bank of Scotland, Thorntons and Scottish and Newcastle.
- Transport for London (TfL) – As part of the Transys consortium, EDS developed, marketed and continues to administer the Oyster smart card, enabling paperless travel throughout TfL's network. Oyster has revolutionised travel in London, letting cardholders purchase season tickets, view travel histories and check balances at any TfL station.
- Scottish & Newcastle – EDS recently supported Scottish and Newcastle as they embarked on an aggressive migration project moving their key business users from a mainframe platform to a UNIX-based system enabling IT to deliver an improved service and cost savings.
