Behind the Next Generation of Chip Technology,
There's a Business Issue Waiting to be Solved
Intel® vProTM Case Study
Over the past year EDS has been collaborating with Intel on their vPro technology, conducting a series of pilot projects to test the results of implementation in the business world. As part of those pilots, Intel engaged an independent auditor to record the results.

When Intel needed insight into managing complexity and extending enterprise management capabilities, EDS was a natural partner. For several years, teams from both companies have been collaborating on a number of initiatives to take advantage of Intel’s latest embedded chip technologies and open system platforms to modernize workplace and infrastructure environments.
As an advanced tester of prototypes and an early adopter of new Intel technologies, EDS can provide clients with advanced notice and technical counseling prior to new innovations being released by Intel. When new technology enhancements become available, EDS experts are already trained and ready to support clients across all segments of the market. EDS and Intel believe this innovative approach will yield significant savings and productivity gains for their customers.
Early collaboration also allows EDS engineers to modify existing services and to design new services that capitalize on the innovation of Intel's newest brand, Intel® vProTM technology. This new technology incorporates never-before available remote management capabilities into the hardware of a machine. So when a PC crashes no matter where it is located, a technician can identify and fix the problem without leaving their desk, even if the machine is inoperable due to hardware or software failures.
Future EDS solutions for the desktop, mobile PC and enterprise-wide server will take advantage of the extended remote access management and security of Intel vPro technology which addresses business issues—proactively—such as:
- Improving manageability services and maximizing end user uptime at the hardware level, even if the system is off or the operating system is inoperable.
- Enhancing security and reducing risk with the ability to more rapidly deploy security updates across the entire PC fleet, even to systems that are powered down.
- Enabling better protection from intrusion and malicious software attacks while protecting corporate data without impacting other users.
- Conserving energy by enabling the machines to be powered off during idle or non-working hours.
EDS is also working with Intel and other partners to deliver new virtual server solutions to move applications from mainframe legacy platforms to more efficient Intel-based open systems platforms.
Bringing new innovation to clients in the area of increased automation and virtualization of services is a high priority for EDS. And joining forces with Intel is a logical extension of EDS' plans to leverage the best technology in the industry to deliver enhanced value to clients.
