New Airport Biometric Security System

Ben Gurion Airport Authority Case Study

With Israel air travel on the rise, Ben Gurion International Airport faced the dilemma of maintaining high levels of security while also controlling crowds and cutting passenger wait times. EDS designed and implemented a pioneering biometric solution to automate the inspection of low-risk travelers so that airport authorities could focus on identifying high-risk threats.

The innovative Express EntrySM system allows Israeli passengers to be automatically inspected with a simple swipe of a card and scan of a hand. For every passenger that passes through the human inspection, three passengers pass through the Express Entry biometric system. The system has completed nearly 5 million inspections since 1998, and Ben Gurion hasnÿt experienced a single security breach. Today, about 15 percent of Israeli passengers use the biometric system.
