United States Department of Defense (Command Communications Survivability Program) Case Study
After September 11, a study found vulnerabilities in the Pentagon's IT infrastructure. As a result, the Department of Defense wanted to quickly eliminate those areas of weakness, improve security and ensure systems could survive virtually any contingency.
An EDS-led team, working closely with the department, began work on the Command Communications Survivability Program (CCSP). We implemented redundant and powerful networks, added storage capacity, and installed a more survivable central office switch. We also delivered a more survivable system for incorporating data feeds from voice, mainframe, network and messaging components.
The team completed the project on time, within budget and without impairing ongoing operations. The result was an enhanced and fortified network and voice system infrastructure, data center, and enterprise management center.
