EDS Enterprise Labs
Labs Reduce Footprint, Cut Costs and Accelerate Productivity
Enterprise Labs, through explosive growth, had literally reached the capacity limits of its facilities. Beginning 2007, the team initiated an aggressive virtualization program, renovating a lab into a virtualization center capable of hosting 5,000 virtual servers in a small 1,300 square foot facility. Over 500 physical to virtual migrations were completed during 2007. In addition, EDS hosted another 400 new virtual servers on this new virtual infrastructure, saving millions in new hardware. By year-end over 900 virtual servers were being managed. The virtualization of the Enterprise Labs saved 50-75 percent in hardware costs with a real estate reduction of 75 percent. What's more, the virtualization has helped EDS Enterprise Labs reduce power consumption and cooling by more than 80 percent.
