Federal Administration Improves Access to Mission-Critical Data
The Federal Aviation Administration served one of the world's busiest airspaces with mid-1980s applications and outdated hardware that was subject to frequent failure.
EDS offered a low-risk plan built around first putting a stop to system failures. The team migrated the applications to hardware emulators to take the legacy hardware out of the equation, then implemented totally new applications and new hardware. The National Aeronautical Information Management Enterprise System (NAIMES) arrived, with Web-based, real-time information access.
The EDS-FAA team contributed to improving the safety of aviation while staying within a rigid budget. Now instead information that could be up to one hour old, pilots and air traffic controllers have immediate updates.
