When the United Kingdom decided to enact policy that would ensure financial inclusion to the entire population, Post Office Ltd. worked with the government to deliver the policy with EDS' support. Together, they launched the innovative card account at Post Office® service employing proven electronic transfer and smart-card technologies.

The system enables recipients to withdraw funds and manage account activities electronically, with a simple swipe of a smart card. EDS also established a new customer service center to ensure anytime, anywhere transaction processing and inquiry resolution.

In the first two years, EDS opened 4.8 million card accounts, nearly 50 percent more than anticipated. Benefits recipients across the UK now prefer the hassle-free smart-card system because it makes funds available instantaneously via simple paperless transactions.
