What are the likely events and circumstances that will propel life insurers to move into large-scale use of outsourcing across a wide range of functional areas? And what, if any, are the barriers that have prevented them from doing so to date?
A survey for the Global Financial Leadership Forum (GFLF), conducted by EDS, set out to investigate the challenges players in the life insurance industry face in a fast-changing market, and how they are adapting their business models to manage the risks and achieve new, lower-cost models that will enable them to compete effectively. In particular, the survey examines to what extent outsourcing of one type or another might form part of their strategic push to acquire and sustain competitive advantage.
The survey was compiled by conducting detailed interviews with executives from leading life insurers around the globe and combining this with analysis of secondary data sources on the market.
