System Certification Pays Dividends for Tennessee Taxpayers
12 Oct 2006
Tennessee’s TennCare Management Information System (TCMIS), developed and managed for the state Medicaid program by EDS, has received full federal certification from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The federal seal of approval ensures full funding for the federal portion of the TennCare system and related operations, which saves Tennessee taxpayers millions of dollars per year. The certification is retroactive to August 9, 2004, the first day of operation for the new TennCare system.
“EDS has helped Tennessee implement new technology that not only supports our daily mission of providing and coordinating health care for our citizens, but also provides better access to the information needed to run our programs,” said TennCare Deputy Commissioner Darin Gordon.
EDS designed, developed, implemented and now manages the state-of-the-art TennCare interChange system, under a $72.6 million contract that began in September 2002, to provide health care services to more than 1 million Tennesseans. Now that TennCare has received full federal certification, CMS will pay for 90 percent of the $19 million cost of designing, developing and implementing the new system and 75 percent of systems operations.
“We are proud to work with the state of Tennessee to develop and manage an efficient and cost-effective health care system,” said Jim Duffey, general manager of EDS U.S. Public Sector. “With this CMS certification, TennCare sets a benchmark for other state Medicaid programs.”
