EDS Integrates Microsoft’s Zero-Touch Technology with Intel’s New Digital Office Platforms, Bridging the Gap Between IT Support and Deployment
Deploying Latest Technology Helps EDS Win Recent Desktop Contract with Australia Post
PLANO, Texas – EDS today announced it will support innovative new digital office platforms from Intel Corp. EDS, a world leader in technology services and business process outsourcing for more than 40 years, will deliver mobile and desktop PC support services based on the latest Intel manageability and virtualization technologies, enhancing the user experience and efficiency while driving down cost. This applicable next-generation service will enable clients to effectively deploy, repair and sustain constant IT support.
One such client, Australia Post, recently signed a contract extension with EDS using Microsoft’s Zero Touch technology to migrate 10,000 Australia Post users to the current Microsoft Operating System.
EDS will deliver desktop and mobile PC service solutions that take advantage of the latest Intel platform technologies – namely dual-core Intel® Pentium D and Pentium 4 processors with HT Technology for desktop PCs, and Intel® Centrino™ mobile technology for tablet and notebook PCs. Both computing platforms take advantage of Intel® Virtualization Technology and Intel® Active Management Technology. Zero-Touch technology, eliminates the necessity of manual deployments with automated support that is equivalent to an in-house IT staff.
EDS is the first global systems integrator to drive early adoption of Intel’s new PC platform capability with end-customers.
-
Intel® Virtualization Technology:
- Enables clients to isolate a portion of a managed PC to perform system upgrades and maintenance, without interrupting the end-user. This technology acts as a business and personal system, keeping software loads and virus attacks separate.
-
Intel® Active Management Technology:
- Part of the Intel® Professional Business Platform enables delivery of a service that remotely discovers, heals and protects network connected assets, from PCs to enterprise servers. Even with a crashed hard drive or locked operating system, an Intel® Active Management Technology-enabled device can be accessed and problems remotely identified and repaired.
When the new technology enhancements are first available later this year, EDS technologists will already be trained and ready to support clients across all segments of the market. EDS and Intel believe this innovative approach will better support EDS clients and will yield significant savings and productivity gains for them.
“Bringing new innovation to our clients focused around automation and virtualization is a high priority for EDS,” said Kim Stevenson, vice president, EDS Workplace and Mobility Services. “EDS manages more than 3 million Intel-based desktops and laptops, and joining forces with Intel is a logical extension of our plans to leverage the leading technology in the industry to bring best-in-class desktop solutions will benefit our clients. With that in mind, we also recently announced new automated workplace migration services, patch management and password reset services.”
“Enhanced business PC capability is critical, whether you work in an office, on the road, or in remote field locations,” said Gregory Bryant, Intel, general manager of the Digital Office Platform Division. “The company is currently preparing its engineers with early prototypes, allowing EDS to provide customers with advance notice and technical counseling prior to new innovations being commercially released by Intel from 2005 to 2007. Intel’s newest PC virtualization and management technologies will help provide a stable foundation to lower the cost of service and support – no matter where your PC is located. “With EDS” heritage in desktop management, it’s no surprise that they are helping lead the global adoption effort.”
