EDS To Provide Flight Planning Solution To Mexicana Airlines

PLANO, Texas and MEXICO CITY, Mexico – EDS today announced it was awarded an information technology (IT) services contract to provide the EDS Flight Planning solution for Mexicana de Aviación (Mexicana Airlines), a leading air transportation company between Mexico and the United States. Financial details were not disclosed.

The EDS Flight Planning solution represents a cost-effective way to calculate and optimize operational flight plans in terms of finding the most economical route, from both fuel and cost perspectives. The EDS Flight Planning solution will allow Mexicana and its low cost airline, Click Mexicana, to increase productivity with an easy-to-use, Web-based graphical interface that assists dispatchers in making the right business decisions as they monitor air traffic. This is done by an Automatic Flight Planning (AFP) model that supports the flight plan calculation by the automatic determination and suitability check of operational hours, weather and infrastructure status of an airport.

By using the EDS Flight Planning solution, Mexicana and Click Mexicana can calculate the most economical operational flight plans for its combined fleet of 77 aircrafts, allowing the airline to automatically consider route restrictions, alternative routes and best routes, which reduces the airline’s operations cost.

“EDS’ commitment to implement this new flight planning system within an ambitious period of time, and their proven global air transportation delivery capability, supported us in making the decision to continue the successful and long-standing business relationship with EDS,” Santiago Ontañon, Mexicana Airlines CIO said. “Through the effective use of EDS Flight Planning solution and its capability of automating dispatch processes, Mexicana and Click Mexicana will be able to achieve its business objectives to reduce fuel consumption and increase staff productivity, further contributing to the Mexicana Group becoming the leading holding company of major airlines in Mexico and Latin America.”

“EDS is thrilled Mexicana decided to continue our long-standing relationship by selecting our new EDS Flight Planning solution,” Antonio Guerrero, general manager of EDS Mexico said. “Mexicana was looking for a solution that provided substantial fuel savings and dispatcher productivity, and we are pleased that they recognized this in our offering. This implementation demonstrates that EDS is a significant competitor in the Flight Planning & Operations environment.”

EDS has more than 20 years of flight planning experience and is the world’s leading airline IT services provider.
