State Leaders Commend Voter Registration Support from Saber Government Solutions During Historic General Election
One in Five Voters Nationwide Registered Using Saber System
HERNDON, Va. – Saber Government Solutions, the non-healthcare U.S. state and local government subsidiary of EDS, an HP company, is receiving hearty congratulations from state leaders across the nation for the successful implementation and management of voter registration systems in 13 states for the 2008 presidential election.
Saber’s enterprise-class voter registration and election management software provided voter list management and election management functionality for more than 40 million voters in the following states: Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Wyoming. Overall, approximately one in five American voters registered using Saber’s election software.
Saber helped to ensure the election process would be free and fair for all registered voters by helping states comply with the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). The law regulates federal elections and requires states to consolidate voter lists from the county level to a centralized state-wide database. Additionally, HAVA called for transforming the election management process by including provisional ballots, trained election workers and public access to voter information – all of which has been addressed by Saber’s solutions.
Saber software is HAVA-compliant and has the ability to interface with federally required databases from other agencies, such as a state’s motor vehicle department to validate voter information.
For 45 days before the election and until the polls closed on election night, Saber had more than 100 help desk professionals across the nation on call around the clock to support states. Additionally, Saber provided its elections support development center, equipped with software trainers, data analysts, infrastructure and software specialists to address voter registration issues and technical challenges for all 13 states.
“The Saber team helped us successfully complete the 2008 General Election by implementing the new Statewide Colorado Registration and Election System (SCORE) in the midst of the election cycle,” said Colorado Secretary of State Mike Coffman. “We look forward to continuing our productive collaboration with Saber and sharing our success with the talented and capable Saber team.”
New York’s State Board of Elections Chief Information Officer George Stanton said he “was very pleased that the statewide NYSVoter registration system, designed and developed with Saber’s assistance, handled the registration and verification of more than 700,000 new voters with ease. The public voter registration information and poll-site lookup systems also handled more than 200,000 queries per day without performance problems.”
“Both Saber and EDS are committed to delivering results to our clients,”” said Dennis Stolkey, senior vice president of U.S. Public Sector at EDS, an HP company. “We are pleased for the opportunity to support our clients in the successful completion of this historic election.”
