Fast And Thorough Credit Solutions Defined By You
Your bank staff and your merchants need on-the-spot credit decisions. Staff turnover requires an easy-to-use application interface. You want to process as many applications as possible – from all your customers, day and night.
Surveyor® Application Processing Services is the right tool for your financial institution. It's based on a scalable architecture that processes applications quickly, matching them against criteria set by you, even if that criteria varies among your products or services. Users work with a graphical interface, so no technology skills or training is needed. And the subsecond internal response time means you get results in the blink of an eye.
Surveyor Architecture Overview
Using many different protocols, Surveyor supports an open architecture, interfacing with multiple front-end systems and providing solid and proven integration solutions. Mainframe architecture enables EDS, an HP company, to demonstrate unmatched scalability. Surveyor can process one to hundreds of thousands of applications a day for you. The mainframe platform currently supports 1,770 million instructions per second (MIPS) and 302 mass storage units (MSU). Surveyor operates on the multiple virtual storage/extended storage architecture (MVS/ESA) operating system. It is currently running with a z/OS 1.7 operating system.
The client component of Surveyor is a graphical user interface supported on any personal computer (PC) with Web browser software. The HTML screens can be accessed with Internet Explorer. EDS continuously upgrades the system software with the most recent releases as they become available from the third-party software vendors. We test and implement these upgrades in annual releases. The upgrades are included with the EDS Surveyor Application Service Provider (ASP) product offering. This approach allows you to focus on your business drivers and customer base and not expend resources to support the information technology (IT) infrastructure.
Integration
The ability to receive applications from multiple sources is a critical business need for your financial institution, and Surveyor supports multiple input delivery channels. In addition to the graphical user interface for application entry, Surveyor receives files in many formats, both real time and batch. Surveyor currently supports data retrieval from:
- Batch files
- Key entry
- Voice response units (VRUs)
- CPU-to-CPU
- The Internet
The Surveyor system communicates with other systems real time using Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) communication protocols using application programming interfaces (APIs). Surveyor supports APIs in either a variable length tagged format or a fixed file format. For offline processing, Surveyor supports several file transfer methods such as FTP and EDS*ELIT. Surveyor has expertise in interfacing with multiple front-end and back-end systems, providing solid and proven integration solutions.
Processing Statistics
Surveyor's internal processing time consistently averages less than one second per interactive transaction. Surveyor provides subsecond internal response time providing a solution making quick and accurate decisions on credit applications.
Ongoing performance monitoring ensures that Surveyor is meeting service level standards in terms of the ability to store data and process transactions. Some statistical examples of Surveyor's ability to process volumes include:
- One Surveyor mortgage client processed more than 150,000 applications in one day, and these applications may pull up to 15 credit reports depending on the number of borrowers
- Another Surveyor credit card customer processed 210,000 applications in one day
- One Surveyor production CICS region is processing up to 60,000 transactions per hour
Surveyor can easily handle your current and anticipated volume of applications. The EDS Application Service Provider (ASP) solution will let us set the environment to meet your processing needs.

Application Entry: Supports Application Entry From Different Delivery Channels
Surveyor supports e-commerce activities and will be configured to accept applicant data and credit information from your applications. Surveyor can be integrated through Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to any Web site hosting option. Any number of data elements, an instant decision or a simple confirmation of receipt of the application can be returned. The Surveyor system currently supports these interface functions for existing clients.
Workflow Tools
Application processing flow can be tailored for each product (i.e., gold cards follow different processing rules than classic cards. Or if both cards and loans are supported in a system, those can follow different processing rules.)
- Business rules – parameters used to define the various decision tree structures are provided and maintained by your financial institution
- Duplicate Detection – checks every new application to verify it has only been entered once. New applications are compared against applications currently residing in the online application database
- Fraud Detection – new applications can be compared to your financial institution's negative data to determine if history exists with this customer Credit Report Retrieval
You can retrieve credit bureau credit reports from your preferred bureau or take advantage of alternate bureau processing to automatically retrieve a credit report from a different bureau if your preferred bureau is down. Surveyor uses dedicated, high-speed connections to retrieve consumer and business credit reports online from the following credit reporting agencies:
- U.S. Equifax Consumer Bureau
- U.S. Experian Consumer Bureau
- U.S. Trans Union Consumer Bureau
- U.S. Experian Business Bureau
- Canada Equifax Consumer Bureau
- Canada Trans Union Consumer Bureau
- Australia's Baycorp Consumer Bureau
Credit Summarization and Scoring
Once all pertinent data is collected for an applicant, Surveyor will assign points based on characteristics defined by your financial institution. The system provides maximum flexibility through the user-definable credit policy tables, point-score assignment and point-score decision tables. Your financial institution defines the characteristics from the application record, the credit report and the point-score values assigned to each characteristic.
