Creativity, unintended use and opportunity

We're all familiar with the exponential growth of IT, but sometimes it is the unintended use of these capabilities that can take us by surprise.

  1. USB powered lava light
  2. SMS controlled kettle
  3. Bluetooth enabled dairy cows

As organizations improve the flexibility of their IT infrastructure using extensible tools like an Enterprise Service Bus and SOA, they need to keep their ear to the ground on how people use and extend the tools.

Sometimes the real value may be far beyond what was in the business case justifying the capability implemention.
