Google Phone Rumor

by Randy Mears

This news story on Yahoo reports recent rumors that Google may be looking for a way to get into the mobile phone business. The article reports that Google recruiting ads are aimed at building expertise in mobile phone skills while experimenting with wireless communications systems. Given Google’s tendency to innovate, this could be good news for the mobile phone business. Since the Google recruiting ads indicate that they are engaged in “… experimentation with a few wireless communications systems including some completely novel concepts,” one can’t help but wonder what to expect.

Since this is still just a rumor, I guess there is no point in getting too excited. As it currently stands, all we really have here is a tantalizing article without much substance that ends with the statement “Google could not be immediately reached for comment.”
